Intent Statement

The bespoke Key Stage 3 Geography syllabus is designed to inspire a sense of curiosity and wonder about the world and its diverse environments, peoples, cultures, and economies. Our intent is to provide students with a foundational understanding of both physical and human geography, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to make sense of their place within local and global contexts.

Through a widely varied curriculum, students will have opportunities to:

  • Develop Knowledge of Key Geographical Concepts: Students will explore fundamental topics, including ecosystems, climate change, natural landscapes, urbanization, and globalization. They will build knowledge of the relationships between human activities and natural processes, emphasizing sustainability and stewardship of the planet.
  • Foster Critical Thinking and Inquiry: We aim to cultivate students’ ability to ask insightful questions, analyse diverse sources of geographical data, and evaluate multiple perspectives. By engaging with real-world issues and case studies, students will learn to think critically about complex global challenges.
  • Enhance Geographic Skills: Students will develop essential skills, such as map reading, spatial awareness, and data interpretation, which are critical for understanding and analysing geographical information. They will use these skills to communicate their ideas effectively and consider solutions to real-world problems.
  • Encourage Global Awareness and Responsibility: Through studying geography, students will become more aware of their responsibilities as global citizens. The syllabus highlights the importance of cultural understanding, environmental sustainability, and ethical considerations in today’s global village.
