Intent Statement
Students will explore a wide range of media, techniques and processes; using sketchbooks to record, design and support creativity. Practical skills will be developed through applied knowledge; skills integrated into activities to enable students to create visual, tactile and digital artworks. This will develop an increasing control of fine/gross motor skills as well as increasing their proficiency and confidence in the handling of varied materials creating 2d and 3d outcomes.
Students will explore critical and contextual studies as well as developing their knowledge and understanding of the history of Art, craft and design. They will also become more eco conscious through studying the project ‘Under the Sea’, where they will explore the impacts of environmental issues, such as marine pollution linked to climate change. They will understand how Art inspires cultural change and how sustainable art bridges creativity and environmental consciousness.
Students will develop their vocabulary and subject specific terminology as well as using visual language to critically analyse the work of studied artists. Students will develop their critical and creative thinking skills such as; encouragement to use creative thinking to inform action, to be resourceful, resilient and reflective. These skills will support students to work with a growth mindset informing conscious improvement of learning and outcomes.
Students will be supported to take ownership of their own learning and through their projects they will discover careers within the creative industries.
