Intent Statement

At The Hub School, we deploy the White Rose Maths Mastery scheme of work to create an inclusive and adaptive learning environment for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our intent is to ensure that every student, regardless of their starting point, is challenged and supported to achieve their highest potential in Mathematics.

We tailor the White Rose Maths curriculum to meet the individual needs of our students, incorporating manipulatives and scaffolded work to enhance understanding and engagement. By using concrete materials and visual aids, we make abstract concepts more accessible, allowing students to build a solid foundation in Mathematics. Our scaffolded approach ensures that students are guided through their learning journey with appropriate support, gradually reducing assistance as their confidence and competence grows.

We are committed to providing a curriculum that does not impose a ceiling on our students' outcomes. Instead, we create opportunities for all students to explore, investigate, and master mathematical concepts at their own pace, encouraging deep and meaningful learning. This approach empowers students to take ownership of their learning and develop resilience in problem-solving.

In our Maths lessons, we use engaging activities and games to captivate students' interest and make learning enjoyable. These interactive, hands-on experiences offer an alternative to mainstream methods, making Maths more accessible whilst creating a positive, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to participate and safe to learn through their mistakes.

Preparing our students for the real world is a key focus. We integrate real-life contexts and practical applications into our lessons, helping students to see the relevance of Mathematics beyond the classroom. By fostering critical thinking and practical skills, we equip our students with the tools they need to navigate and succeed in life after school.
